5. Education:PhD 6.Abstract of CV Anastasia Zabaniotou is Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece ( ). Dr. Zabaniotou holds a Ph.D. and a DEA from Ecole Centrale de Paris, France. She has been working for 5 years in the European Commission of EU in DG research in R&D policy. Since then until now, she is working with the EC as an expert and evaluator She is member of the Board of the Centre for Sustainable Development of the Aristotle University, member of International Relations Committee of the Engineering School and Aristotle University (AUTh). She is AUTh’s coordinator of T.I.M.E (Network of the Top Engineering Schools for Top Managers in Europe, coordinated by Ecole central de Paris) ( and board member of RMEI (Network of Mediterranean Engineering Schools working on Sustainable Development, coordinated by Ecole Centrale de Marseille ( She is founder member of the AUTH’s Center for Environment, Technology and Gender issues. ( ).She is interested in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and education. She is also involved in activities concerning science and society, international engineering education and mobility. In research fields, Prof. Zabaniotou is active in Circular Economy and Bioeconomy concepts, with focus on thermo-chemical conversion of biomass, residues and waste to energy, biofuels, and materials production in the bioerefinery concept and also in pyrolysis-based biochar production for closing the loop in agriculture. She has been involved in 40 national and international applied research and innovation projects. She is author and co-author of 105 papers in international journals and 220 conference presentations. She has been invited in several conferences as keynote speaker, organized several conferences, workshops and events and awarded for innovation in research and visited many Universities around the globe. She was guest editor of the Special Volume of the Journal of Cleaner Production: On Advances in Sustainable consumption, cleaner production and cleaner energy sources, in the special Volume in Bioeconomy: Agricultural and forest biomass for food, materials and energy:bio-economy as the cornerstone to cleaner production and more sustainable consumption patterns for accelerating the transitiontowards equitable, sustainable, post fossil-carbon societies and also in Catalysis today journal. In 2014 Prof Zabaniotou was assigned expert by EU to lead the multifaced bioenergy sector development in Puglia Region of Italy, under the EU project STARagroenergy, for one year. ( )In 20016 Prof Zabaniotou was visiting professor to Stony Brook University, NY, Tsinghua University and Academy of agriculture in Beijing, Federico Santa Maria University of Chile and Easter Finland University to present the concept of Sustainable use of renewable researches in the context of Circular economy by incorporating local knowledge, public health and community’s resilience with social-environmental benefits considerations and social acceptance. In 2006, Professor Zabaniotou organized the first International Symposium and Workshops RE-GREECE 2016 ( ) in the Greek Island of Nisyros, with invitation of international renowned experts and with the support of RMEI (Le Réseau Méditerranéen des Ecoles d'Ingénieurs),, UNESCO UNI TWIN , GAMe (Young ambassadors for Mediterannean) ( ) and the municipality of Nisyros, To RE_THINK on sustainable development in Mediterranean area and globally. Since May 2017, Prof Zabaniotou is scientific responsible within RMEI-Marseille, of an HORIZON2020 project on gender issues, the TARGET project -TAking a Reflexive approach to Gender Equality for institutional Transformation-, ( ) coordinated by the Research Group Socioecological Transformation Research, Institut für Höhere Studien - Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna, Austria and accounting for 10 members, RMEI included (partner).
