The Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities - Network (EPIC-N) unites local governments, and communities, with the human capital of universities to improve the quality of life and social wealth for all involved. EPIC-N is the nonprofit association of institutions that adopt the award-winning EPIC model for university-community partnership.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change call for deep transformations in every country that require complementary actions by governments, civil society, science, and business. While significant progress is being made on some goals, no country is currently on track towards achieving all SDGs. 

In the summer 2018, STAR Communities announced that it had formally merged with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). STAR certification programs, services and staff have now transitioned into the LEED for Cities and Communities program at USGBC. 

Abstract

A food bank in Cloverdale, B.C., will begin growing its own food in the new year with two indoor growing walls capable of producing up to 600 pounds of fresh produce each year.  These vertical gardens are soil-less, require no weeding and take up minimal space.  (The president of the organization behind this initiative was one of my students – he worked on this project in one of my classes last year.)  See full story here.  

ReGen Villages architectural partner EFFEKT is presenting our northern climate context version of ReGen Villages as the centerpiece of the Danish architectural pavilion for the upcoming Venice Biennale in May of 2016.

This will also be the global press announcement for ReGen Villages partnerships, development pipeline plans and launch of the marketing outreach program for the first 100 homes breaking ground in Almere, Netherlands this summer of 2016.

In Nairobi, Kenya, many ‘new private cities’ are to be developed in  the capital city’s periphery on what were previously large scale commercial farms.  These are in a way similar to ‘edge cities’ that have developed in other parts of the world...
