Rural and remote communities are often the backbones and character of our countries; they provide the history, as they generally were there long before the cities. Rural and remote places can provide an opportunity to demonstrate innovative models of delivery that can be translated to urban areas later.

The Future of Places Summit: Putting Research into Practice

The Future of Places Summit will be the lead event of the Placemaking Leadership Forum and will take place on Thursday, Sept 15 in Vancouver. Building upon the first three Future of Places forums—which drew together over 1,500 urban thinkers from 100 countries and 700 organizations—this summit will focus on tangible, evidence-based methods with which international practitioners and policymakers can advance placemaking both locally and globally. A symposium will examine the thought leaders as well as promising new research into practice.

Plan Vivo is a registered Scottish charity which has created a set of requirements for smallholders and communities wishing to manage their land more sustainably. Plan Vivo has developed the Plan Vivo Standard, which is a framework for Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) schemes for rural smallholders and communities dependent on natural resources for livelihoods.
