The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS) is a dynamic knowledge network that brings together leading researchers from British Columbia (BC) and around the world to study the impacts of climate change and to develop positive approaches to mitigation and adaptation. Created in 2008 with a major endowment from the BC Ministry of the Environment, PICS is hosted and led by the University of Victoria in collaboration with BC’s three other research-intensive universities: Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia and the University of Northern British Columbia.

4. Centre for Sustainable Community Development

The SFU Centre for Sustainable Community Development (CSCD) supports the sustainable development of communities through research, education (credit and non-credit), and community mobilization; it provides research, training and advisory services throughout BC and Canada as well as internationally. The CSCD offers an undergraduate certificate and post-baccalaureate diploma (both also available through distance education), graduate support, and non-credit professional programs.

5. BC Climate Action Secretariat

The Climate Action Secretariat (CAS) drives change to achieve British Columbia’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets by coordinating climate action activities across Government and with stakeholders. CAS supports municipal and regional efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, leads international, national and regional initiatives to promote trans-boundary approaches to climate action and works with industry to promote low carbon business opportunities.
